The year 2021 is destined to be a memorable one for the world. This past year has been heartbreaking for everyone at ICSO UK, as we have received news of many ICSO UK volunteers who have contracted the disease. We were always concerned about their situation in other countries and actively did our best to help them. At the same time, we were inspired by their optimistic spirit after the diagnosis. Everyone has made a lot of sacrifices in the fight against the epidemic, but “The way ahead is long, I shall search high and low.” now that we have more sophisticated medical tools. Our understanding of the virus is becoming more comprehensive. We believe that shortly, the impact of the virus will eventually disappear, and our lives will be back on track.
Over the past year, ICSO UK has resisted the pressures of the epidemic. It has continued to work in parallel with advocacy and research, contributing to environmental protection, climate change, and sustainable development. While maintaining our existing programs, we have further explored the strengths of our academic resources in the UK and deepened our collaborative research relationships with several world-renowned UK universities. The results include practical devices such as portable plant and soil water sampling devices and theoretical breakthroughs in sustainable development, such as marine microplastic management and marine litter monitoring and assessment of treatment options. We are proud of these research results, representing a new vision and tools to assess and address environmental issues.
” Spring Program,” a new program of ICSO UK, has also completed its pre-planning and the first phase in the past year. The Spring Program is a public service program focused on greenhouse gas control and energy efficiency, with a focus on advocacy and leadership. Against the backdrop of carbon neutrality and long-term goals proposed by significant countries worldwide, we are encouraged and aware that these goals can only be achieved with the concerted efforts of people worldwide. Many similar public welfare projects have failed to achieve effective results in the past, mainly because people’s perception of environmental changes is insufficient. And because most of the actions advocated by such projects will objectively cause a decline in people’s quality of life or an increase in the cost of living, making it challenging to implement. We have optimized our publicity materials for several rounds in response to these two problems. Firstly, to reflect the impact of environmental changes on people’s lives more directly, for example, to introduce in-depth how the melting of glaciers as far away as Antarctica will change our living environment. Low carbon habits. We will learn more from the feedback from the project’s first phase and provide quality resources for the next step.
