On May 15, 2022, after ICSO’s founder, Mr. Gates Yao, released his annual message at ICSO’s global headquarters, Mr. Tony Song, Secretary General of ICSO China (ICSO-CN), followed the lead of ICSO’s headquarters and released an online video of ICSO’s annual conference message, reviewing ICSO-CN’s efforts and contributions to international philanthropy in the past year and clarifying ICSO-CN’s future direction in international philanthropy according to the instructions from ICSO’s global headquarters.
In 2021, the Covid-19 epidemic is still raging worldwide, and the lives and properties of the world’s people are under a significant threat across the board; we look back on this year with intolerance and heartache. The mutual help among countries and the solidarity among peoples have shown us the peace-loving, unity, and friendliness among the world’s people.
“The times have given us crisis and opportunity.” With the inconvenience caused by the Covid-19 epidemic combined with ethnic conflicts and wars worldwide, we faced significant challenges regarding policy support and program implementation. Still, the ICSO China division focused on grasping the opportunities of the times and responded to the crisis with unwavering faith and perseverance.
This year, even under the influence of the epidemic, the ICSO China division still did not stop. We did not forget our original intention and tried to overcome all difficulties to ensure the regular operation of the project work. At the same time, we also know that it is in the problematic background that there is a greater need for the emergence of public charity.
“Hardship is the key to success.” In the past year, the six flagship projects of the China Division have raised 27% more money than the previous year, making a leap forward and laying a solid foundation for later projects. With the efforts of everyone, the Baby Eagle Program has achieved promotion and rapid development (Hunan region), adhering to the concept of “people-oriented and education-oriented.” Compared with last year, we have strengthened the development of academic and public welfare projects and partnered with many famous universities in China, including Sichuan University, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics， Southwest University of Political Science & Law, and Shenzhen University, etc. The tasks of each university are in various forms, opening up academic horizons with diversified attitudes and supporting the development of related educational undertakings in China. At the same time, the ICSO China division has cooperated with other ICSO chapters to introduce many high-quality overseas academic projects, including cooperation with Stanford PACS, the National Institute of Social Innovation and Philanthropy, and the University of London, and other universities around the world. These have achieved excellent results and made public welfare projects reach home and abroad, creating a positive general welfare environment. In addition, we cooperate with other charity organizations and ICSO overseas branches to recruit many volunteers from UNHCR(United Nations High Commissioner Of Refugees), ICSO US, ICSO UK, and other similar organizations. The organizations and we promote each other and progress together, adhering to the moral spirit of “promoting charity and public welfare energy,” respecting the cultures of different countries and regions, and adding new strength to the world together with all volunteers!
The years are not going to end, and the seasons are flowing. We are very excited to see that the ICSO China division is developing in a better direction. Looking ahead, we will firmly establish our confidence and determination to deepen our academic work in the public service industry. Cultivate an excellent public service mindset, strive to build an utterly shared service model, and effectively assume the responsibilities and obligations of a public service organization according to the epidemic situation in China to serve the people better.
