ICSO: Hi Layla, could you briefly introduce the “Uncommitted National Movement” to us?
Layla Elabed: Of course. The “Uncommitted National Movement” is a campaign dedicated to raising public awareness about Palestinian human rights. We focus on promoting peace and justice within the Israel-Palestine conflict. By organizing community events and engaging in deep conversations with political decision-makers, we aim to inspire people to care about human rights and social justice, and to garner more support and aid for the Palestinian people. Our goal is to help build a more equitable world, especially by giving a voice to those suffering in conflict. Through our efforts, we hope more people will understand the plight of Palestinians and stand up for those who are enduring hardship.
ICSO: What specific roles and responsibilities do you take on within the “Uncommitted National Movement”?
Layla Elabed: As co-chair, my responsibilities include organizing events, coordinating volunteer teams, and holding dialogues with political representatives. I’ve been involved in several campaigns aimed at raising awareness about Palestinian human rights, particularly within the Democratic Party. We use our votes to send a clear message to political decision-makers, urging them to support a ceasefire and recognize the suffering of those caught in the conflict. My role goes beyond organizing activities — it’s about communication and collaboration to push all sides to work together for peace. Especially this year, we made history by initiating the first-ever discussion on Palestinian human rights at the Democratic National Convention, marking a major milestone in our advocacy.

ICSO: What are some successful outcomes that have resulted from your efforts?
Layla Elabed: Absolutely. During one of our campaigns, we successfully mobilized over 101,000 voters to clearly express their support for Palestinian human rights. This significantly amplified the voice of the community and sent a powerful message to decision-makers. We also partnered with a variety of organizations and communities to push forward a “Ceasefire Petition.” Through these efforts, we aim to raise public awareness about human rights and drive changes both within and outside of political systems. That experience deeply taught me the immense power of unity and organization.
ICSO: What are your thoughts on the future of global public welfare, particularly in the areas of peace and anti-war advocacy?
Layla Elabed: I believe the future of public welfare will rely more heavily on global cooperation and cross-cultural understanding. As societies continue to evolve, conflicts and inequality grow increasingly complex, making it difficult for any single region to resolve global issues alone. Building transnational partnerships is therefore essential. Our movement strives to unify diverse voices toward shared goals. Furthermore, the digital era has provided us with more avenues to disseminate information and mobilize action, making international collaboration more efficient. I’m confident that by combining technology with grassroots communities, we can go even further down the path of peace and justice.

ICSO: As a young global public welfare leader, what are your future plans and aspirations?
Layla Elabed: I hope to continue developing the “Uncommitted National Movement,” especially in areas of education and advocacy. We plan to expand our influence and engage more young people in peace advocacy. I truly believe that every young person has the power to impact society and be a force for change. My vision is to enhance public awareness of human rights through education and activism, encouraging more people to learn about and join this cause. Public welfare isn’t something that happens overnight — it’s a continuous journey. We must keep pushing forward to steer society toward greater justice and peace.
