On January 17, 2025, the 97th session of the ICSO International Charity Organization’s “Music Dream Ignition Project” in China made its debut in Shanxi, marking the beginning of a new public welfare chapter—Xinpingwang No.1 Primary Station. This event was jointly organized by ICSO’s Zuoyun branch in Shanxi and the Datong Youth Volunteers Association, with strong support from various local institutions in Shanxi. This warm and hopeful initiative not only provided a better musical education experience for the children but also allowed them to feel the care and support from all walks of life—bringing them one step closer to their musical dreams.
Since its inception, the Music Dream Ignition Project has been committed to providing children in underprivileged mountainous areas with access to music. In these regions, educational resources are extremely scarce. Many children have never had the opportunity to see or touch a musical instrument, let alone receive proper musical instruction. Although some schools offer music classes, due to a severe shortage of instruments and textbooks, teaching quality is difficult to guarantee. As a result, children’s musical interests and dreams often remain just that—dreams.
Against this backdrop, the ICSO’s “Music Dream Ignition” project was born. For the 97th session of the project, once Shanxi was chosen as the destination, local volunteers worked meticulously to prepare every detail of the event in advance and coordinated closely with the school to ensure the activities met the children’s real needs. At 6 a.m. on the day of the event, volunteers set off for the Xinpingwang No.1 Primary Station, carrying eagerly awaited musical instruments and educational materials. Although the journey was long, everyone was filled with excitement, knowing that the children were about to have a chance to connect with music in a meaningful way.
At 8 a.m., the volunteers delivered a batch of guitars and ukuleles to the children. To ensure each child could truly experience the charm of music, we not only provided the instruments but also included basic music theory books—allowing them to touch the instruments, learn how to play, and understand rhythm and melody. Volunteers personally taught the children, sharing their own music learning experiences and tips. In class, the children curiously tried playing the instruments. Though their skills were just beginning, each note reflected their love for music and their desire to pursue it.
Beyond teaching technique, the volunteers focused on encouraging the children to use music to express their emotions and ideas, inspiring their creativity and self-confidence. Through the continued implementation of this public welfare project, the volunteers hope to help broaden the children’s horizons, ignite their interests and potential, and make music a source of emotional support and a driving force for chasing their dreams.
In the future, ICSO’s six flagship programs will continue to roll out across various regions of Shanxi, working closely with the Zuoyun branch and the Datong Youth Volunteers Association. Together, they aim to provide more life-changing opportunities for children in impoverished areas.
